“Only the guy who isn’t paddling has time to rock the boat!”

Our Teams and Programs

We currently have 3 Dragon Boat Teams, each with different levels of commitment and competitiveness. Each crew paddles on a different evening of the week, thereby affording our members the opportunity to paddle a number of times within the week should they wish to do so. Paddles, lifejackets and coaching is provided by the Burloak Canoe Club.

JULIE VAN HEMELRYCK - CAPTAIN

Festival Crew/Experienced

As the name suggests, this crew is quite experienced with many members having paddled together for close on 10 years. On the whole, they are largely competitive with several of them committing to more than one evening a week. On average they take part in 3 or 4 large festivals throughout the summer and they regularly meet-up amongst themselves to kayak or SUP (Stand up paddleboard). There really is no way of keeping this lot off the water. This crew are also fully committed to paddle-pool training throughout the fall and the winter seasons.

Training is every Thursday evening from 7pm - 8pm at the Burloak Canoe Club. The season runs from May to mid October. (23 weeks)

This crew is currently FULL and no applications will be taken at this time.

ELIZABETH PEARSE - CAPTAIN

Festival Crew/Intermediate

This crew is made up of Intermediate paddlers, a handful of advanced paddlers and a few new recruits who are eager to learn and to compete. This crew paddles once a week and they typically take part in two large festivals throughout the summer season. Several members of this crew are committed to paddle-pool training throughout the fall and the winter seasons.

Training is every Wednesday evening from 7pm - 8pm at the Burloak Canoe Club. The season runs from May to End July. (12 Weeks)

Extra Practice - Technique

Our Tuesday crew is a dedicated group of experienced paddlers who take their training seriously. This extra practice session is all about sharpening our technique and pushing our fitness so we’re always race-ready. No room for slackers here—everyone’s focused and working hard to make sure we’re at our best. We’ve all got a deep love for the sport, and that’s what keeps us motivated, even on the toughest days. If the boat isn’t full, we’re always open to welcoming new paddlers who are eager to join in and keep the momentum going. It’s a solid team, and we push each other to be better every week.

Training is every Tuesday evening from 7pm - 8pm at the Burloak Canoe Club. The season runs from May to End July. (12 Weeks)
